Our Story
It all started with a girl named Zoe
Zoe was a girl who lived and breathed music, and like so many young people in Dundee, she found her community by playing in the Dundee School's Symphony Orchestra

When Zoe passed away in 2018, we wanted to continue her musical legacy, and came together to start Dundee Community Youth Orchestra. From the very beginning we have had young musicians leading the direction of our community.

In 2020, we set up DCYO to fill the gap for opportunities for young people in Dundee to continue making music together after they left school. Unfortunately, the pandemic hit and we had to put our ambitions on hold

As the world started to open up again in 2022, we tested the waters again to see if young people still had that desire to make music and invited them to play with us, no matter how many times they picked up their instrument during lockdown
To date, we have had over 50 young musicians attend rehearsals, 10 performances, and 15 instruments on loan to people who would otherwise not have the opportunity to play
